Soweto Kota Festival Da Bomb

The Soweto Kota Festival organisers still don't believe that their weekend event surpassed their expectations. "It was a surprise. The success was a double of what we expected," says Fikile Motaung. Mind you, the idea hit the founder, Sidwel Tshingilani, in June and was rolled out on the 16th and 17the of September 2017. Fikile says, "Many vendors were sold out on the first day. They could not come back to sell the following day," Fikile confirms. Thirty-five vendors booked stalls to sell at the event that was hosted at Soweto Theatre. Fikile continues, "Many people are pleading with us to host it again." Fikile says, people would just come to Soweto buy a kota, "then Sidwel decided to celebrate the 'township burger' by hosting this event. Some people were sceptical." The idea attracted people across Gauteng, Limpopo and even the Eastern Cape was also represented.
